It is less than an hour’s drive from the Brisbane Central Business District and the Sunshine Coast.

Support the Cause: Saving life, Protecting life, Promoting life

Surf Live Saving is Australia’s peak coastal water safety, drowning prevention and rescue authority. Tens of thousands of people are saved from drowning every year because of the efforts of Surf Lifesavers. These trained volunteers patrol the massive 35,000 km coastline and assist more than 100 million beach visitations every year. By supporting The Surf Life Saving Foundation, you help over 42,000 volunteers from 313 clubs around Australia that keep our beaches among the safest in the world.

Surf Life Saving has touched the lives of millions of people over its 100-year history. Australia’s first Surf Life Saving clubs emerged way back in 1907 when surf-bathing increased in popularity during the early 20th century. Today, Surf Lifesavers rescue around 35 people every day and conduct 143 preventative actions every hour. Surf Life Saving exists to save lives, and the goal of the organisation is to reduce coastal drowning rate by 50 per cent by 2020.

Donations and funds generated by the prize home lotteries are directed into three main areas: rescue gear and equipment, first aid supplies, training and surf safety community education programs.

Rescue gear and equipment represents the largest cost to running lifesaving services is Australia. The sun, water and sand are elements that damage rescue gear and equipment that Surf Lifesavers use every single day. There are no second chances when it comes to saving lives, so the foundation makes sure that all the necessary items are in top condition.

Training programs and surf safety community education programs are key to helping prevent accidents and save lives on the beach. Surf Life Saving does its best to make sure that more beach-goers are educated about vital surf safety tips.

In the 2014 – 2015 patrol season, your support has helped Lifesavers:

  • Perform 12,690 rescues
  • Perform over 1.2 million preventative actions
  • Provide 42,424 First Aid treatments
  • Commit over 1.3 million patrol hours
  • Educate over 500,000 children in beach safety and surf awareness
  • Establish and maintain beach patrols at 313 Surf Life Saving Clubs Australia-wide
  • Operate 59 Support Operations Services including Rescue and Surveillance Helicopter services, Jet Rescue Boats, Rescue Water Craft and Surfcom Communications Networks to name a few.

By continuing to support the cause, you help make sure that Surf Lifesavers are equipped with the most up-to-date training and equipment to ensure they are ready for the next rescue.
